Tchai supports KLABU in bringing safe, inclusive sports clubhouses to refugee communities worldwide. From transforming shipping containers into fully equipped hubs to realising permanent clubhouses and retail spaces, we translate KLABU’s mission into physical environments with real social impact. The latest clubhouse was installed at the M’bera refugee camp in Mauritania, serving over 100,000 Malian refugees and creating a place to connect, play and rebuild normalcy.
Refugee settlements often lack safe, structured spaces for sport and community. KLABU’s ambition is to change this with clubhouses that foster pride, well-being and belonging. Working closely with KLABU and MVRDV, Tchai translated the architectural vision into a durable, scalable and transportable structure engineered for remote environments, quick to deploy, operational upon arrival and adaptable to local needs.
The clubhouse transforms a shipping container into a vibrant hub equipped with solar power, Wi-Fi, charging points, sports equipment and a large screen. The bold exterior signals identity; the interior is safe, inclusive and multifunctional. Installed at M’bera refugee camp, Mauritania, serving over 100,000 refugees, this mobile and scalable model is deployable worldwide, with ongoing rollout from the Netherlands to locations including Mexico, supporting KLABU’s ambition to reach 50+ sites globally under Tchai’s People pillar.
